Archbishop Leo of Helsinki and all of Finland expressed his disappointment at the report of the Inter-Orthodox Pre-Assembly Consultation organized by the World Council of Churches and hosted by the Orthodox Church of Cyprus in Paralimni, May 10-15, 2022.
Archbishop Leo, who has repeatedly condemned the Russian war in Ukraine, is not satisfied with the meeting’s report.
“Personally, I am disappointed. I hoped for more determination from them. I wished that the local Orthodox Churches would have spoken and acted more directly.
Namely, it is the responsibility of every bishop to testify to the truth and speak of things by their proper names — not only in theological but also in social issues.
The war in Ukraine is the result of a unilateral attack by the Russian Federation, which the Russian Orthodox Church under Patriarch Kirill has supported with his statements.
The bloody hands of the blessers of this war have unfortunately been involved in influencing the wording of the document and thus the meaning of it”, says Archbishop Leo.
