The festal Great Hierarchical Vespers was celebrated by Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus and accompanied by Bishop Gregory of Mesaoria at the Church of Saint Andrew in Strovolos on Sunday, November 29, 2020.
In his sermon, the Archbishop referred to the call of Andrew the Apostle, where according to the evangelical pericope of the feast the first-called apostle was one of the disciples of St. John the Baptist. Like all the disciples of the Forerunner, Andrew the Apostle awaited the coming of the Messiah. “I always say that if the seas, rivers and roads had a mouth to speak, they would testify to the sacrifice and efforts of the Apostles to spread the faith in Christ.”
The best way to honor Andrew the Apostle is to imitate him. We must not forget that the Apostles, the Fathers of the Church and all the Saints were people like us. But their love for God was so great that they cleansed their souls from all passion and dedicated their lives to the will of God, their life was filled with the presence of God in their hearts.
