Archbishop Makarios, the new Primate of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, visited the Australian Embassy in Athens and met with Chargé d’Affaires Sophia McIntyre.
Ms McIntyre congratulated the Archbishop on his election and wished him well in his new role as the religious leader of Australia’s vibrant and close-knit Greek Orthodox community.
Archbishop Makarios was unanimously elected as the Archbishop of Australia by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on 9 May 2019. He will be enthroned at the Archdiocese Cathedral of ‘The Annunciation of our Lady’ in Redfern at 11am on Saturday, 29 June.
