Archbishop Makarios of Australia paid a visit to the Consulate General of Greece in Melbourne on the morning of Monday, April 19.
The Archbishop was received by the Consul General, Emmanouil Kakavelakis, who took office at the beginning of this year. Therefore, this was the first official meeting between the Archbishop of Australia and the new Consul General of Greece in Melbourne, which was held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere.
The discussion focused on issues related to the needs of the large Greek community in Victoria, as well as the Greek Orthodox Church, while the need for close and good cooperation was agreed upon.
Archbishop Makarios wished Kakavelakis, as well as the staff of the Consulate General, strength and success in the demanding and responsible work they have undertaken. He also expressed confidence that the new Consul will meet consistently and effectively his duties during his tenure in Melbourne, as he is a remarkable person who already enjoys the acceptance and appreciation of the people.
