Archbishop Makarios of Australia ordained Deacon, Father Eleftherios Gerovasilis, as Presbyter.
The ordination ceremony took place on Sunday, December 29, at St. Stylianos Church in Gymea, New South Wales, in the presence of many faithful, relatives and friends of the ordained clergyman. Archbishop Makarios presided over the Divine Liturgy and Bishop Iakovos of Militoupolis had performed the Orthros.
It should be noted that Father Eleftherios Gerovasilis becomes the Chief of the Saints Constantine and Helene Church, Perth, Western Australia, succeeding the newly elected Bishop of Kyanea, Elpidios.
In his speech, the Archbishop said to the newly ordained clergyman that being successor of Bishop Elpidios was a blessing and a responsibility at the same time.
The Archbishop expressed, however, his assurance that Father Eleftherios would succeed in the duty assigned to him and would do his best for the Church in order to praise the glory of Christ and lead all the faithful to salvation. He also reminded him that the clergyman’s daily rule, that is, his personal and private prayer, was a prerequisite “to keep priesthood steady,” as he said.
