The Vice-President of the European Commission for the Promotion of the European Way of Life, Margaritis Schinas, paid a customary visit today to Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all Greece.
Margaritis Schinas wished the Archbishop to continue shepherding the Church for many years on the twelfth anniversary of his election while the Archbishop congratulated Schinas on taking up his new duties and wished him strength in his work.
Afterwards, the two sides discussed various issues of common interest. The Archbishop was also briefed on the vice -president’s responsibilities and talked about a future cooperation between the Church of Greece and the European Commission on European way of life.
According to Article 2 of the Treaty of European Union, “The Union is founded on the values of respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities.” These values are common to the Member States in a society in which pluralism, non-discrimination, tolerance, justice, solidarity and equality between women and men prevail.”
