“Rishi Sunak‘s decision to abruptly cancel his meeting with Kyriakos Mitsotakis over the Parthenon Sculptures deeply insults Greeks worldwide. These Sculptures are beacons of our shared human heritage, and their reunification in Athens fulfills UK’s moral and historical responsibility,” Archbishop Elpidophoros of America posted on social media.
It is recalled that UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak cancelled a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 28, with his Greek counterpart Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, causing a diplomatic row, reported Associated Press. According to some reports, the cancellation was attributed to a BBC interview in which the Greek Prime Minister mentioned his intention to raise the issue of the Parthenon Sculptures with the British Prime Minister.
