Archbishop Makarios of Australia visited the All Saints Greek Orthodox Grammar School in Sydney on Monday, August 19.
The Archbishop officiated the School Divine Liturgy and offered the Holy Communion to more than 600 students of the School, teachers, and parents.
The Archbishop then attended the student assembly.
On behalf of the teachers, the Head of the School, Elfa Lillis, welcomed the Archbishop and said: “They have dubbed you ‘Archbishop of Children’ because your communication ties with them are strong and evident.”
The Archbishop said with some emotion: “I came here to meet you and bless you, to speak to you and to listen to you. But, above all, I want to reassure you that your Archbishop has come here to serve your needs, to listen to your heart, to keep you close to Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life.”
After having exchanged gifts on this historic visit, the students played music and sang in honour of their Archbishop. The Archbishop was shown around the classrooms, from kindergarten to high school, and had the opportunity to talk with the students.
Grateful for this historic visit and his communication with the children, the Archbishop departed after noon. The Archbishop has repeatedly said that the children are not only the future but the present of Orthodoxy on the fifth continent.
