On May 28, 2020, Archbishop Elpidophoros participated in the United Nations Virtual Consultation “Global Pledge for Action.”
The event was chaired by Ms. Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Miguel Angel Moratinos, High Representative for the UN Alliance of Civilizations, Mr. Adama Dieng, UN Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and Ambassador Ivan Simonovic, Permanent Representative of Croatia to the United Nations. Other high-level religious leaders, representatives of faith-based organizations and policy makers were also in attendance.
In his remarks, Archbishop Elpidophoros mentioned the centrality of faith in response to the global pandemic of COVID-19. He especially insisted on, “This is why, among the UN COVID-19 related initiatives, I consider multilateralism as being key to the expression of solidarity. But we should not misguide ourselves, this solidarity will only prevail if we agree on two basic realities: the dignity of the human person and our responsibility to one another.”
