Archbishop Elpidophoros was received August 22, 2019, by Metropolitan Joseph for their first official visit at the headquarters of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America.
The two hierarchs discussed the various practical, pastoral, and ecclesial matters pertaining to the Orthodox Christian community in the United States of America. The Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the USA as well as potential bilateral actions were emphasized, and the recognition that the future of Orthodox Christianity in America is only possible through unity. The two hierarchs, after sharing a common meal, agreed to meet frequently to work together to realize said unity.
Also in attendance on behalf of the Antiochian Archdiocese were the Right Reverend Bishop John, Bishop of Worcester and New England; the V. Rev. Fr. Thomas Zain, Vicar General and pastor of St. Nicholas Cathedral, Brooklyn, NY; the V. Rev. Fr. Michael Ellias, Secretary of the Archdiocese and pastor of St. Mary Church, Brooklyn, NY; Mr. Fawaz El-Khoury, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Mr. Charles Ajalat, Former Chancellor. Archbishop Elpidophoros’ delegation included the Rev. Alexander Karloutsos, Vicar General; V. Rev. Archimandrite Vasillios Drosos, Advisor; Ms. Paulette Poulos, Executive Director of the Archbishop Iakovos Leadership 100 Endowment Fund; Rev. Eleftherios Constantine, Deacon; and Mr. Nicholas Anton, Director of Inter-Orthodox, Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations.
