On Friday, 12 April 2024, Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, on behalf of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, welcomed a delegation of members of the Hellenic Parliament at the headquarters of the Archdiocesan District of Melbourne, which will attend, next Sunday, the Parade for the National Anniversary of the Greek Revolution, in Melbourne.
The parliamentary delegation consists of: Konstantinos Vlasis, Member of Parliament for Arcadia of the New Democracy Party, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, responsible for Hellenism Abroad, Theodora Tzakri, Member of Parliament for Pella of the SYRIZA Party, First Vice-President of the Inter-Party Committee of the Hellenic Parliament for Hellenism Abroad, Evangelia Liakouli, Member of Parliament for Larissa of the PASOK – Movement for Change Party, Second Vice-President of the Inter-Party Committee, and Asimina Skondra, Member of Parliament for Karditsis of the New Democracy Party, Member of the same Committee.
Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis welcomed the members of the delegation and conveyed to them the warm greetings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, while during the meeting that took place, they discussed issues concerning the Greek Community of Australia and the work and ministry of the Holy Archdiocese.
The Greek Members of Parliament were accompanied by the Ambassador of Greece to Australia, Stavros Venizelos, and by the Consul General of Greece in Melbourne, Emmanuel Kakavelakis. The meeting was attended, among others, by the President of the Intercommunities Council of Victoria and Chair of the Victorian Council for Greek National Day, Tony Tsourdalakis.
A delegation of the Hellenic Parliament visited the Archdiocesan District of Northcote
The headquarters of the Archdiocesan District of Northcote was visited by a delegation of members of the Hellenic Parliament, who are currently in Australia to attend the Parade on the National Anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821 in Melbourne.
Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Northcote, warmly welcomed the Members of Parliament from Greece, on behalf of Archbishop Makarios of Australia. After the welcome, the Bishop gave them a tour of the facilities of the historic Holy Monastery of “Axion Esti” and informed them about the vision of Archbishop Makarios for the creation of the Greek Cultural Centre in Northcote. This was followed, in fact, by an audio-visual presentation of this ambitious project which is currently under implementation.
