While on a missionary journey in Tanzania, Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, was informed with regret about the passing of the Blessed Metropolitan Gennadios of Sassima.
From Arusha, the Patriarch of Alexandria sent the following Letter of Condolence to the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew:
Most Holy and Divine Bartholomaios, Archbishop of Constantinople, New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch, most beloved and dearest brother and concelebrant in Christ God of My Mediocrity, I embrace Your Most Holiness in the Lord fraternally and honorably greet you.
In deep sorrow and anguish of heart, we were informed in Tanzania of the passing of the Blessed Metropolitan Gennadios of Sassima, to the Lord, for which we prayed fervently to the Lord, that He will place his soul in the place of the righteous.
We had the fortune of knowing closely the blessed Hierarch and admiring, not only his extreme dedication to the Orthodox faith and the canons of the Great Church of Christ but especially his pioneering theological discourse, which is why he was connected in the framework of the Theological Dialogues through an unwavering friendship with the theological thought of our Spiritual Father, Benefactor, and Predecessor, the late Parthenios III.
May the memory of the learned Bishop Gennadios, an ecclesiastical man of undeniable spiritual greatness, who served as few others in the heavenly Orthodoxy, Be eternal.
Beloved brother in Christ of Your honorable Most Holiness
