The fire that broke out in the morning in an inaccessible forest area in the Skete of Agia Anna, on Mount Athos, has been suppressed.
Thanks to the immediate mobilization of the land and aerial firefighting, the fire was suppressed in good time, as stressed by the Deputy Civil Governor of Mount Athos Aristos Kasmiroglou.
According to him, the fire has been suppressed, while no monks or sanctuaries were in danger.
There are still 39 firefighters operating in the area with 11 vehicles and three infantry divisions, while two firefighting aircraft and an equal number of helicopters are dropping water.
The work of firefighting is hampered by the strong winds in the area.
