A special route comes to the forefront through the Exhibition of Engravings bearing the title “From Venice to Athos – The Journey of Paper Icons”.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Markos Bolaris, President of the Supervisory Committee of the Venice Institute Professor Christos Arabatzis, Curator of the Athonite Gallery Markos Kambanis and Fr. Justin made a presentation of the exhibition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It is an exhibition of fifty engravings that enlighten our knowledge towards this fascinating art technique and discover the hidden and unique religious print of the cultural treasure of the Simonospetra monastery at the Institute of Venice. Besides their uniqueness, it is an opportunity for a remarkable digital journey in the past, from 1700 until today.
“We are very happy because we are inaugurating an exhibition in the heart of Europe, Venice, which puts the European public in contact with an unknown artistic treasure. It is particularly important that the engravings travelled outside the Mount Athos, from Greece to Venice again, two important sites that were connected through religious engraving three centuries ago,” said Markos Bolaris
The opening of the exhibition will take place on Saturday, May 11. The exhibition in Venice, a city with 30 million tourists, will be open to the public for one month, and free of charge.
