A crowd of people has been swarming for seven months to the Church of Saint Dimitrios in the suburban town of Athens, Vyronas, to venerate the crying holy cion of Panagia Parigoritria (the Comfort).
According to the church officials, this miracle started on September 8, the feast for the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Eleni, the church’s sexton, was the first to see the icon of the Virgin Mary crying and she said she could not believe her eyes.
“I was shivering, the Virgin’s eye was blurred and tears were rolling down. I burst into tears.”
Believers who were in the church at that time witnessed the miraculous event and the news quickly reached everyone.
Many speak of a miracle, with the priest of the church, Father Christodoulos, noting that “many miraculous events have taken place since then.”
One typical example is the case of a woman who had advanced breast cancer.
After learning about the miracle with the icon, although hesitant at first, the woman went to venerate the icon and after a few days of examination, she was completely healed as reported by megatv.com.
As she said, “she saw the face of the Virgin Mary smiling at her.”
Hundreds of believers arrive at the church to venerate the holy icon in compliance with all protective measures.
