Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias will visit Cairo on Monday and then make a stop in Cyprus before his return to Greece, announced foreign ministry spokesperson Alexandros Papaioannou at a press briefing on Friday.
Underlining the frequency of the contacts and communication between the ministers of Greece and Egypt, as well as Dendias’ visits to Cairo, Papaioannou said that they indicate the excellent relations between the two countries. The meeting will focus on bilateral relations, the full range of political issues, economic cooperation, and collaboration in the energy sector. Regional developments, starting with those in the Eastern Mediterranean and the situation in Libya, will also be discussed, he added. Moreover, he makes known that the visit will be a follow-up of contacts at the Friendship Forum in Athens.
Afterwards, Dendias will visit Nicosia and he will meet with his Cypriot counterpart Nikos Christodoulides. Their meeting will focus on their coordination in terms of the Cyprus issue, taking into account that UN special envoy for the Cyprus issue Jane Holl Lute will also be in Nicosia on Monday and will meet with the President of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades. Lute will visit Athens on Wednesday and will meet with Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias. The second issue to be discussed during their meeting in Nicosia are the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and EU-Turkey relations ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting on March 22 and the European Council.
