“Greek State and the Greek people will show solidarity with the effort of the French people and the French Republic to rebuild the Notre Dame with its old grandeur,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs George Katrougalos, who holds an official visit to Paris today, visiting the Notre Dame.
“I share,” Koutougallos said, “the regret of all people in the face of this great disaster. Great churches such as the Notre Dame, or Hagia Sophia, surpass religions, countries, and even the cultures that built them. They are acquisitions, a heritage of all mankind, of the world civilization. And, especially, the Notre Dame is also an eternal symbol of France and Paris.”
Finally, the Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his assurance that the Notre Dame “will be rebuilt in her old brilliance because we have confidence in the solidarity of the whole world,” pointing out that “the signs of support of ordinary people in Greece, who called the French Embassy stating their sympathy, is a small sample of this all-round solidarity.”
