On February 10, 2021, Bishop Gerasim of Gornji Karlovac met the President of the Republic of Srpska, Zeljka Cvijanovic, in Petrinja, a city that was destroyed in a devastating earthquake in December 2020.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Croatia, Aleksandar Vranjes, Head of the Republika Srpska Representation Office in Brussels, Mario Djuragic, advisors to the President of Srpska Slavko Mitrovic and Dusan Petrovic, Member of Croatian Parliament and President of SDSS prof. Dr. Milorad Pupovac, Member of Croatian Parliament Dragana Jeckov, as well as Protopresbyter-Staurophor Slavisa Simakovic.
Bishop Gerasim showed the guests the church of St. Spyridon the Wonderworker and the parish house in Petrinja, which was destroyed in the earthquake. A visit to the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God in Glina followed, where the Bishop and high guests were welcomed by the parish priest of Glina, Goran Kalamanda. In Majske Poljane near Glina, Bishop Gerasim and President Zeljka Cvijanovic visited the Kukolec family and on that occasion got acquainted in more detail with the conditions in which they live today.
Bishop Gerasim informed the President in more detail about the troubles and suffering of people as well as all temples and shrines of the Diocese of Gornji Karlovac. Special attention is paid to the topic of renewal and helping the people in a difficult situation. President Zeljka Cvijanovic showed interest, solidarity and good intentions to help people and rebuild homes, shrines and buildings of the Diocese of Gornji Karlovac.
