Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol characterized false the reports of the Archbishop of Cyprus.
The Metropolitan of Limassol refuted the reports of the Archbishop of Cyprus and expressed his regret that the Prelate of the Church of Cyprus chose these hours of agony and the holy days of the feasts “in order to scandalize the people and to crush the reverential spirit”.
“The leader of our Church has chosen to scandalize the suffering people of God by saying so many bad words against me and other holy brothers and bishops,” said the Metropolitan of Limassol, stating that “honestly, I am not bothered by the humiliation that the Archbishop attempts. On the other hand, I have been accustomed to this attitude towards me since I was young, but he hurt me, because everything that he says is a lie and slander and because he always chooses to publish them on holy days, as if he intends to scandalize the people and to crush the spiritual and reverential spirit of the holy feasts, which are days of love, peace and forgiveness”.
“I am obliged, due to my position and my responsibility towards the truth and the conscience, to boldly deny everything that the Archbishop said and to say that I am deeply sorry for this division and the position of the Archbishop, who even forced the President of the Republic to disprove” continued the Metropolitan of Limassol.
“It is obvious that the Archbishop’s effort is aimed at the well-known ‘divide and rule'” added Metropolitan Athanasios.
