In an announcement, the Philoptochos Society and Sunday School of the Annunciation Cathedral in Baltimore are collecting non-perishable food items as well as monetary donations for Weekend Backpacks for Kids to help the thousands of at-risk youth in Baltimore who go hungry and are in need of assistance.
“It was shared with me last year, that many of these young people depend on these meals, even for a Christmas dinner! With the cold weather upon us, the need has increased. While you are shopping, whether in person, or even online, consider helping those in need. Let’s fill our hallway with donations!” commented Fr. Constantine Moralis, Chancellor of the Metropolis of New Jersey and proistamenos of the Cathedral.
The Philoptocohs Society encouraged everyone to bring items requested below to the Cathedral where they would be gathered, sorted and sent to the warehouse for immediate distribution to WBFK. It is mentioned that one may also go online using any shopping platform, and send items directly to the Cathedral using the address: WBFK, 24 West Preston Street, Baltimore, MD 21201 or make a monetary donation online at www.weekendbackpacks.org.
It is mentioned that food items needed: cereal-11oz or larger; peanut butter-15 or 16oz jars (no jelly); ramen noodles; granola bars; cans of Chef Boyardee; canned fruits, vegetables, beans, fish, chicken and sausages; small individual containers of applesauce or pudding.
