St. Philip was a small but very beautiful church. According to tradition, it was built by Anna, the second daughter of the emperor Alexios III Komnenos, who was the wife of John Mourouzis.
It seems that the temple was used as a chapel by the princesses and the members of the Mourouzis family.
The Church of St. Philip was also used as a metropolitan church of Trebizond after its fall, in 1461. This is because the Metropolitan Church of Panagia Chrysokefalos was converted into a mosque.
The width of the church is 4.5 m. Also, there was a beautiful fountain with excellent representations. On 15/08/1665 the church was converted into a mosque, named Kudrettin Camii.
Today, around the former orthodox church, many old uninhabited Greek houses are still standing, which were abandoned with the destruction of 1922.
