In the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopios Pavlopoulos, Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all Greece and the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, an event was held at the Athens Concert Hall on Friday evening on the actions of the Bicentennial Initiative 1821-2021. Metropolitans Ignatios of Demetrias, Gabriel of Nea Ionia, politicians, scholars, the clergy, and many people attended the event.
More than 75 organisations in Greece and abroad worked together in order to organise and prepare about 120 actions, which will take place during the 2020-2022 period.
In his address, the Prime Minister emphasised, “1821 is a breaking point and at the same time a defining moment. The 200 year anniversary of the Greek Revolution must be approached in many ways, in accordance with its historic experience and the lessons of history. It will, therefore, serve as a compass in order to take a positive look into the future.”
It is noteworthy that the Church of Greece, through the Special Synodical Committee for Cultural Identity, has been organising International Scientific Conferences on the Greek Revolution. Moreover, the Church of Greece is responsible for the programme of the Synodic and Regional Events of the Holy Synod on the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution (1821-2021).
