On Tuesday, December 31, 2019, St. Basil’s homes in Sydney, Lucknow, commemorated St. Basil the Great.
The event was held in the evening in the chapel inside the premises of St Basil’s Homes. Archbishop Makarios of Australia concelebrated the Divine Liturgy with Protosyncellus of the Holy Archdiocese, Bishop Aimilianos of Meloa, the Abbot Monastery of St John in Perth, Archimandrite Thalassios Voultsidis, the CEO of St Basil’s Homes, Father Nikolaos Stavropoulos, Father Ioannis Kapetas, and other clergymen of the Archdiocese.
In his sermon, Archbishop Makarios pointed out the great theological and social work performed by Saint Basil the Great, the Great Hierarch who offered much to the Church and to the people.
The Archbishop said that Saint Basil the Great was “the best role model” for all of us and therefore” he is the first Saint to be commemorated by the Church, in order us to make our New Year’s resolutions.” Finally, he said to the faithful that the life of Saint Basil the Great must serve as a good example for them too.
