The Golden Lion was awarded to the Director of the Library of Alexandria by Patriarch Theodore, while Marianna Vardinoyiannis was also awarded at the same event by the Library of Alexandria on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Alexandria Center for Hellenistic Studies.
The director of the Center, Dr. Mustafa El Feki, praised her work and contribution. Mrs Vardinoyannis, on her part, thanked him and promised to always be there for the Library of Alexandria.
Mrs Vardinoyannis was warmly applauded when she stressed that “Egypt is the only country in the world that feels like home to me. And I consider the residents of this country my brothers and sisters.”
The Patriarch of Alexandria expressed a big thank you to the Library of Alexandria, a place of God and knowledge, as he typically said, for its contribution to the world.
The Patriarch spoke of the Holy Family’s journey in Egypt and of the symbol of the Alexandrian Church which is the lion. He then bestowed the Golden Lion of the Order of Alexandria on the director of the Library, Dr Mustafa El Feki, wishing that the Library will always provide enlightment, as Alexander the Great had dreamt when establishing this great city.
At the same time, the Alexandrian Primate spoke with love about the work of Marianna Vardinoyannis, on whose initiative the Alexandria Center for Hellenistic Studies was founded ten years ago, referring to her work and mainly her work for children.
