On Wednesday, September 25 and Thursday, September 26, 2024, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada, led by Archbishop Sotirios, commemorated the Falling Asleep of Saint John the Theologian, Apostle and Evangelist. St. John is the Patron Saint of the Patriarchal Toronto Orthodox Theological Academy.
Great Vespers and the Divine Liturgy were celebrated at the chapel located within the Archdiocesan Headquarters with the participation of Bishop Athenagoras of Patara, Fathers from across the Greater Toronto Area, and many pious Orthodox faithful.
Following Vespers, with the blessing of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Archbishop Sotirios invested two new Archons in Canada: Ted Papadatos, Archon Maistor, and Andy Seretis, Archon Protekdikos. Both individuals have made significant contributions as benefactors of the Church in Canada, demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting and promoting the Archdiocese and the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
In addition, the annual memorial service was held for the clergymen who served in the Holy Archdiocese, as well as for the Archons and benefactors of the Church in Canada who have fallen asleep in the Lord.
The chapel was filled for both holy services and included the participation of many dignitaries such as the new Consul General of Greece in Toronto, Ioannis Chatzantonakis; the President of the Greek Community of Toronto, Betty Skoutakis; the President of the Archdiocesan Council of Philoptochos, Zoe Veroutis; and, many Archons of the Ecumenical Throne.
Following the services, all clergy and parishioners gathered together for food and drink like a family in a Christian spirit of love and fellowship.
