Before the start of the much-anticipated Clergy Family dinner, families lined up and patiently waited for their turn to meet and take a photo with Archbishop Elpidophoros of America. The Archbishop greeted each clergyman, presvytera, and child with kind words and a wide smile. The boys and girls held Archbishop’s staff for a photo, garnering joyful smiles and giggles.
The dinner was held on Tuesday evening, July 2, 2024 at Kona Kai in San Diego. Sponsored by Nicholas J. and Anna K. Bouras and many others, this was a chance for families to relax and reconnect with classmates as well as friends both old and new.
Presvytera Mary Christy, who is the current President of the Sisterhood of Presvyteras, organized a beautiful event at a stunning location alongside Presvytera Diane Skordalakis and their committee. The St. Spyridon Youth Choir and Broadway performer Constantine Pappas entertained all and both Pres. Mary and Fr. Peter Orfanakos, newly-elected President of the Archdiocesan Presbyters Council, gave brief remarks. The Archbishop also honored Pres. Diana for her hospitality with the gift of an icon.
Offering his thoughts, the Archbishop emphasized, “The support of our clergy and their families is essential for the health of our parishes. Without you, the vanguard of the Church, we would be unable to provide the saving ministry that continues the work of our Incarnate God upon earth.
“You – the clergy, Presvyteres, and your blessed children, form the core of every parish. Around you, the local Body of Christ is built up through the liturgical and communal life of the Church. A parish without a priest is like a diocese without its bishop: widowed. Your presence in every parish breathes life into the community and establishes a principle of unity around which the parish can thrive.”
