On September 30, 2024, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America addressed the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene through a social media post. Expressing his sorrow for the loss of life and destruction, he emphasized the need for prayers for both the victims and the responders providing aid. The Archbishop noted that the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America is working closely with the Metropolis of Atlanta to assess the impact and determine how best to offer assistance to those affected.
Read the Archbishop’s message:
“We have watched, with much pain, the destruction that occurred as Hurricane Helene made landfall and traveled throughout the southeast United States, leaving in its wake dozens of fatalities and the destruction of thousands of homes and businesses. As we continue to work with the Metropolis of Atlanta to fully research the impact on the area and on our Greek Orthodox communities so that our Holy Archdiocese of America can offer the proper assistance, I ask that you fervently pray for all who are suffering and to also pray for those who are directly giving aid after such a tragedy.”
