The serving Bishops of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia met today, the 3rd of June 2024, under the presidency of Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
During the meeting, Bishop Emilianos of Meloa voluntarily submitted his resignation, which was accepted by the Archbishop and his Assistant Bishops.
On behalf of the local Church, Archbishop Makarios of Australia expressed his gratitude to Bishop Emilianos for his hitherto contribution to the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, and conveyed his wishes to him, in a spirit of love and fraternity, for all that is necessary for his future endeavours.
It is worth noting that the stance of the Bishop of Meloa had raised concerns within the Greek Orthodox community in Australia, as he intended to submit his resignation in the past and to leave from Australia.
