On Wednesday, May 29, Metropolitan Ioannis of Zambia was honored with the Benevolence Award in the presence of members of parliament, former ministers, judges, prominent figures from the world of literature and the arts, and friends of the Kyriasis Foundation, at the packed amphitheater of the Goethe Institute.
The award was received on his behalf by the legal representative of the Metropolis, Panagiotis Gkouskos.
In his honor, all the friends and supporters who have contributed in various ways to his missionary and humanitarian work over the past 30 years were also recognized.
The event was coordinated by the journalist Giorgos Dionysopoulos, who spoke about the work of the Metropolitan, as did the Member of Parliament for Achaia, Andreas Panagiotopoulos. He made special mention of Metropolitan Ioannis’ efforts to restore the historic “Athenian” building in the Metropolis of Mozambique and to highlight the long-standing Greek community of Vlahakides in Zambia.
Sincere thanks were expressed to all, especially to the Kyriasis Foundation.
