The two sides reached an agreement on the normalization of relations – including the status of the Serbian Orthodox Church – between Serbia and Kosovo, the text of which was made public by the European Union.
The President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic and the Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti at their meeting on Monday with the Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and special envoy for Kosovo Miroslav Lajcak gave their consent to the implementation of the agreement.
The agreement explicitly stipulates, among other things, that the parties involved “will ratify the official status of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo and ensure a high level of protection of the Serbian religious and cultural heritage, in accordance with existing European standards.”
The President of Serbia appeared cautious about the progress in the implementation of the European plan, estimating that “it will still take a long time” to reach a final agreement.
