Father Gheorghe Dilirici, the coordinator of the priests serving in the state cemeteries in Bucharest, officiated a memorial service to commemorate the victims of the Mineriads on Sunday, June 13, 2021.
Dozens of people, relatives, and friends of the Mineriads victims gathered at the memorial cross in front of the National Theater in Bucharest to pray for the rest of the souls of those who died in the tragic events of 1990-1991.
Wreaths were laid on behalf of the Romanian Patriarchate and the President of Romania.
The Mineriads were a series of protests and often violent altercations by Jiu Valley miners in Bucharest during the 1990s, particularly 1990–91. The term “Mineriad” is also used to refer to the most significant and violent of these encounters, which occurred June 13–15, 1990, when four protesters were shot and 1,388 people were injured.
