Former Deputy Minister of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports, and Member of Parliament for Magnesia, Zetta Makri, personally congratulated Archbishop Makarios of Australia during a private meeting, following his recent conferment as Honorary Doctor of Theology by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
The honorary distinction was awarded jointly by the Department of Theology and the Department of Social Theology and the Study of Religion, in a distinguished ceremony held at the university’s Great Hall. The event was graced by the presence of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, and a multitude of Metropolitans and Bishops.
During their warm discussion, Ms. Makri expressed her deep admiration and respect for Archbishop Makarios and conveyed her joy at the honorary title bestowed upon him. She emphasized that the award represents a meaningful recognition of his esteemed service and spiritual leadership within the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.
She praised Archbishop Makarios for his clarity of thought, unifying voice, and his steadfast commitment to God and humanity. “He embodies wisdom, virtue, and devotion,” Makri said, “and his journey continues to be a shining example through his multifaceted work for Orthodoxy and the Greek diaspora in distant Australia.”
Also present at the meeting was Metropolitan Joachim of Prussa, who had also attended the honorary ceremony. Both hierarchs, faithful to the Apostolic and Ecumenical Throne of Constantinople.
