Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday that Kyiv has discussed with U.S. President Donald Trump the possibility of deploying American troops in Ukraine as part of future security guarantees.
Speaking to the media via the WhatsApp application, President Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine remains committed to continuing negotiations aimed at ending the war. He added that he is prepared to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin “in any format” if such talks could contribute to achieving peace.
Vladimir Putin: We believe in our victory
At the same time, contrasting messages emerged from Moscow. In his New Year’s address, nearly four years after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared his confidence that Russia would “win” the war.
“I want to congratulate all our soldiers and commanders as the New Year approaches. We believe in you and in our victory,” Putin said in a televised video message broadcast on Russian state television.
