Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has described the sanctions imposed on Russia and Belarus at the Paris Olympics as “half measures,” criticizing the presence of Russian athletes competing under a neutral banner. Zelensky highlighted the irony of this situation, noting the deaths of hundreds of Ukrainian athletes since the “invasion” began.
“Every country in the world clearly sees that the athletes under the neutral flag are athletes from Russia and Belarus. I think these sanctions are half measures,” Zelensky stated in an interview with several French media outlets, including AFP. He further explained his absence from the opening ceremony in Paris, citing the “tense” situation on the Eastern front where the Russian army is advancing.
