Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew went to Mount Athos on Saturday afternoon after his visit in Thessaloniki, where he performed the Patriarchal Co-liturgy at the Church of the Acheiropoietos.
He first visited the Xenophontos Monastery on the 200th anniversary of the construction of the Katholikon and then he inaugurated the new Synodical Hall.
The head of the Xenophon Monastery, Alexios, welcomed, in his speech, the Ecumenical Patriarch and stressed the importance of his visit at Mount Athos. He also said that the main reason for the Ecumenical Patriarch’s visit was the celebrations of the 1,000-year anniversary of Mount Athos.
The Ecumenical Patriarch talked about the strong ties of the Mother Church of Constantinople with Mount Athos and invited the Hierarchs of Mount Athos to the Phanar.
