The Holy Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese of Australia concluded its work, which took place in Sydney from January 17 to 19, 2025, under the chairmanship of Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
According to its statement, the members of the Holy Eparchial Synod had the opportunity to attend the festive Vespers on January 18 and to concelebrate the Synodal Divine Liturgy on Sunday, January 19, in commemoration of Saint Makarios the Great. The Divine Liturgy was presided over by the celebrating Archbishop at the Holy Cathedral in Sydney. The Hierarchs, members of the Holy Eparchial Synod, extended their heartfelt wishes of “Happy Birthday” to the President, once again expressing their gratitude and respect for him.
During its meetings on January 17 and 18, the Holy Eparchial Synod thoroughly examined the items on the agenda and made the appropriate decisions.
Among other matters, it was unanimously decided to grant canonical permission to Angelos Karantonis, Ioannis Psarommatis, Stylianos Magdalopoulos, Nikolaos Avgoustinos, and Ioannis Dimitriou to preach the Divine Word in churches during the Divine Liturgy, as well as during other services and ceremonies.
It was also decided that the 2nd Pan-Australian Priestly Assembly of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia will take place in Sydney from September 29 to October 1, with the general theme, “Social Media and Priesthood.”
At the conclusion of the Holy Eparchial Synod’s work, and on the occasion of the Archbishop’s upcoming visit to Cuba to represent the Ecumenical Patriarch and the Mother Church of Constantinople at the 20th anniversary celebrations for the inauguration of the Church of St. Nicholas in Havana, the Synod extended its heartfelt wishes to Archbishop Makarios for success in this important ecclesiastical mission.
