On Thursday, September 25, Archbishop Makarios of Australia accompanied the hierarchs invited to the second Pan-Australian Clergy Synaxis on a courtesy visit to the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney.
The following Metropolitans attended the visit: Apostolos of Miletus (representative of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew); Ignatios of Demetrias and Almyros; Grigorios of Cameroon; Ioustinos of Nea Krini and Kalamaria; Nathanael of Chicago; and Damaskinos of Aetolia and Acarnania.
The Consul General, Mr. Georgios Skemperis, and members of the Consulate staff warmly received them.
Mr. Skemperis briefed the hierarchs on the mission of the Greek consulate and its work supporting the needs of the Greek diaspora. The group also discussed the importance of preserving and strengthening the Greek language and Greek Orthodox identity within the expatriate community. They expressed their satisfaction with the close and excellent cooperation fostered between the Consular Authority and the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.
At the conclusion of the meeting, good wishes and commemorative gifts were exchanged.
