This year marks a particularly significant occasion, as Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew is celebrating his name day for the first time in his native island of Imbros. The celebrations coincide with two major milestones in his life and ministry: the 35th anniversary of his election to the Ecumenical Throne and 65 years of ecclesiastical service.
The Ecumenical Patriarch and the Bulgarian Patriarch arrived on the island yesterday, while the Romanian Patriarch arrived today to participate in the festivities honoring the senior hierarch of world Orthodoxy.
The celebrations will culminate tomorrow, June 11, the feast day of the Holy Apostles Bartholomew and Barnabas, with a festive Patriarchal Concelebration at the Cathedral of the Dormition of the Theotokos. The Divine Liturgy will be concelebrated by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Patriarch Daniel of Romania, and Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria, offering a visible witness to the unity and fraternal cooperation among the Orthodox Churches.
The presence of the Patriarchs of Romania and Bulgaria on Imbros carries particular symbolic significance, as the primates of two Orthodox Churches have traveled to the birthplace of the Ecumenical Patriarch to honor him on the occasion of his name day and to mark the anniversaries of his long-standing ministry and leadership.
The celebrations in the homeland of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew are expected to draw numerous faithful, clergy, and pilgrims from various countries, who have gathered to participate in the liturgical events and offer their prayers and best wishes to the Ecumenical Patriarch.
