On Friday, August 2, 2024, the Orthodox Christian community of Varshets joyously welcomed Patriarch Daniil of Bulgaria. The Primate of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the Bulgarian Patriarchate was greeted at St. George the Victorious Church by dozens of faithful from the Vidin Diocese.
Patriarch Daniil told the media, “God has blessed Varshets with water, air, and wonderful nature. Opportunities have been created to use these gifts for the health and benefit of many people. Today, resort tourism and spa treatment continue to develop. I wish the municipal leadership continued success in developing these God-given values. I also thank them for their cooperation with the Orthodox Church. God has commanded us to work together, and then His help will be with us.”
Regarding the fires and the efforts to combat them, Patriarch Daniil stated that the Church continues to pray to the Lord to support those risking their lives to fight the fires. “It is not easy, but when a person faces danger with dedication and sacrifice, the Lord will help them in these complex situations,” he noted.
The Patriarch also celebrated the evening Divine Liturgy with the Canon of Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary. After the Divine Liturgy, the Orthodox Christians received his blessing and greeted the newly elected Primate.
On Sunday, the Patriarch will celebrate a festive Holy Mass in Vidin on the occasion of the Sixth Sunday after Pentecost.
