The US support for the efforts of the Republic of Cyprus to reach a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem is expressed by US President Joe Biden in a congratulatory letter sent to the President of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis, on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the declaration of Independence of the Republic of Cyprus.
In his letter, the US president extended his warm congratulations to the Republic of Cyprus, noting that he was pleased to remember his visit to Cyprus as US vice president in 2014.
He also stated that “the United States deeply appreciates the cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus and the role that your country plays in promoting stability, security and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
I continue to monitor developments in Cyprus and the region and look forward to continuing to strengthen and expand our bilateral relations, as well as our security cooperation over the next year,” Biden said.
The US president added in his letter that, as reaffirmed at the UN Security Council in the summer, “we continue to support a comprehensive solution for Cyprus, under the aegis of the United Nations, based on a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation which will be beneficial for all Cypriots, as well as for the wider region.”
Finally, Biden thanked for the lasting friendship of the Cypriot president.
