On July 17, the outgoing US Consul General in Thessaloniki, Gregory Pfleger Jr., who was accompanied by the Public Relations Officer of the US Consulate, Xeni Kosmidou, paid a ceremonious visit to the Metropolis of Xanthi.
The Metropolitan discussed with the US consul general on various issues of common interest with particular emphasis on the problem that recently arose with the conversion of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople into a mosque, as reported by xanthinews. The US consul general promised to express the Metropolitan’s positions in Washington.
Gregory Pfleger said to the Metropolitan that he was leaving Thessaloniki with the best memories for the Greek people who carry the spiritual tradition of the Orthodox Church in their daily lives.
