Amedments to the original draft law on the Criminal Code and the Greek Code of Criminal Procedure restore malicious blasphemy and religious insult, as announced today by Greek Minister of Justice Kostas Tsiaras.
As Mr Tsiaras specifically said:
Malicious blasphemy and religious insult (Article 198 of the CC) are reinstated. Up to 2 years imprisonment is foreseen for anyone who maliciously insults God and who publicly and maliciously insults the Orthodox Church or any religion tolerated in Greece.
“In this way we cure everything and create the conditions for top-notch phenomena, as the ones that occured in the recent past, to be dealt with in this particular way,” the Minister of Justice said.
