“The UN Secretary-General urges all parties to avoid further escalation,” stated Antonio Guterres’ deputy spokesman, Farhan Haq, during a press briefing at the organization’s headquarters in New York, in response to the ongoing Ukrainian operation in Russia’s Kursk region.
“We are closely monitoring developments and reports of attacks along the Ukraine-Russia border, particularly in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. Any extension of the conflict into new areas poses a significant risk of dangerous escalation, which we strongly oppose,” Haq emphasized.
The UN reiterates its call for all stakeholders to act responsibly and to ensure the protection of civilians, the deputy spokesman added.
