The Ukrainian Parliament has ratified what has been described as a “historic” agreement between Kyiv and Washington, granting the United States privileged access to Ukraine’s natural resources, the Ukrainian Ministry of Economy announced today.
A total of 338 members of parliament voted in favor of ratification, with none opposed, according to Oleksandr Merezhko, head of the parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs.
“The Ukrainian Parliament has ratified the historic economic cooperation agreement between Ukraine and the United States,” stated Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko on social media platform X. She added that the agreement could pave the way for new U.S. military assistance to help Ukraine repel Russia’s ongoing invasion.
After weeks of intense negotiations, Kyiv and Washington signed a series of agreements last week focused on Ukraine’s mineral wealth and investment financing for reconstruction.
While the agreement does not include specific security guarantees, it is seen as an important step toward strengthening Ukraine’s strategic partnership with its most critical ally.
The agreement, which was strongly championed by U.S. President Donald Trump, is viewed in Kyiv as a key element in repairing and reinforcing relations with the White House. The U.S. remains Ukraine’s leading supporter in its defense against Russia’s full-scale invasion.
The deal is expected to enhance investment opportunities for American companies in Ukraine’s energy and mineral sectors, while signaling a deepening of economic cooperation that may influence future defense aid packages.
