The funeral procession with the body of the former Metropolitan Filaret of Kyiv took place in Kyiv on Sunday, March 22th, following the conclusion of the requiem Divine Liturgy held earlier this morning at St. Michael’s Cathedral.
The Divine Liturgy began at 8:30 a.m. and was led by Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Epifaniy, concelebrating with members of the episcopate and clergy. The funeral service followed at the same location.
At approximately 11:00 a.m., the procession departed from St. Michael’s Monastery, passing through Sophia Square and heading towards Volodymyr’s Cathedral.
The procession arrived at Volodymyr’s Cathedral, where a funeral service was held and was followed by the burial of the late Metropolitan.
President of Ukraine paid last respects to Metropolitan Filaret
On March 21, 2026, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, together with his wife Olena Zelenska, visited St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral in Kyiv, where they paid their final respects to the late Metropolitan Filaret.

On the same day, tribute was also paid by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna, Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine General Oleksandr Syrskyi, representatives of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, as well as other distinguished figures.
Former Metropolitan Filaret of Kyiv fell asleep in the Lord at the age 98, on Friday, March 20th.
The Honorary “Patriarch” and former Metropolitan of Kyiv, Filaret, was hospitalized in a medical facility in Kyiv due to a deterioration in his health caused by a flare-up of chronic illnesses.
