The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, reaffirmed the UAE’s opposition to the displacement of Palestinians during a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Abu Dhabi, according to the state-run WAM news agency.
Rubio made a brief stop in the Gulf nation as part of his first tour of the Middle East before departing the region. During their discussions, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed emphasized the UAE’s firm stance, rejecting any attempt to displace the Palestinian people from their land.
The Emirati leader also stressed the importance of linking the reconstruction of Gaza to a long-term, comprehensive, and sustainable peace process based on a two-state solution, where Israeli and Palestinian states coexist peacefully.
Secretary Rubio arrived in Abu Dhabi from Riyadh, where he is scheduled to attend a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit on Friday. The meeting will include leaders from the six GCC nations, as well as Egypt and Jordan, who will discuss their response to US President Donald Trump’s proposal for Gaza.
Washington has dismissed any future role for Hamas in Gaza’s governance and urged Arab nations to propose alternatives to Trump’s plan. Trump’s proposal suggests that the US take control of Gaza and relocate its 2.4 million residents to Jordan and Egypt—an idea that has met strong opposition from regional leaders.
