U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken issued a strong rebuke to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov today, accusing him of spreading a “tsunami of disinformation” and held Moscow responsible for the escalation in Ukraine.
“I regret that our colleague, Mr. Lavrov, has left the room, denying me the courtesy of listening to us as we listened to him. Of course, our Russian colleague is too skilled to drown his audience in a tsunami of disinformation,” Blinken stated during his address at the ministerial meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), held in Malta.
Blinken directly criticized Moscow’s actions, highlighting Russia’s role in fueling the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He expressed concern over the significant toll these actions have taken on regional stability and global security.
The U.S. Secretary of State also condemned the crackdown on protests in Georgia, where demonstrators have called for the country to maintain close ties with Europe.
“We support the right to peaceful protests and condemn the suppression of those who advocate for their country to stay on the path of close relations with Europe, especially the attacks on and arrests of journalists,” Blinken stated emphatically.
