LAST UPDATE: 18:55
About half an hour ago, the two Ukrainian pilgrims were found, who had been missing for days on Mount Athos, as it became known by the police.
The two pilgrims were located by police officers of the Mount Athos police department and the Great Lavra police station near the hermitage of the Holy Monastery of Great Lavra and are in good health.
They have been transferred to the Romanian monastery for emergency medical aid because they are exhausted.
It is noted that the two Ukrainians along with six other compatriots started from the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior and headed to the shelter of the Virgin, but, due to the dense fog, they lost sight of their group and took the wrong path.
When they found out of their absence, the others notified the authorities at 8.30 p.m. An investigation to locate them involved 14 police officers, 8 firefighters, EMAK men, as well as monks who know the area well.
Their relatives as well as the Ukrainian consular authorities were informed about their finding.
