The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate convened today, January 10, 2025, under the presidency of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The Synod reviewed all matters on its agenda and reached the appropriate decisions.
During today’s session, at the proposal of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and in response to a formal request by Metropolitan Joseph of Buenos Aires, the Holy and Sacred Synod conducted canonical elections in the Patriarchal Church. By unanimous decision, two auxiliary bishops were elected to serve the pastoral needs of the faithful in Brazil.
The elected bishops are:
- Archimandrite Irenaeus Tamaninis, under the title of the historic Diocese of Tropaeum.
- Archimandrite Agathangelos Karkangelis, under the title of the historic Diocese of Zela.
