Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today that his country saw itself as an integral part of Europe, but would not give in to ‘double standards’ attacks.
“We see ourselves as an integral part of Europe. However, this does not mean that we will succumb to open attacks against our country and our nation, covert injustices and double standards,” Erdogan said in a speech to members of the AKP party.
Speaking via teleconference from Constantinople, Erdogan also said that the EU should keep its promises on the immigration issue and make Turkey a full member of the EU.
“We call on the European Union to keep its promises to our country from the issue of full membership to immigration so that we can build a closer, more effective cooperation,” said the Turkish president.
